At Comminution Reimagined we want to contribute to a greener planet and a more sustainable mining industry.
Our mission is to dramatically reduce the environmental footprint of the mining and mineral processing industry.
We have developed a new approach to the extremely energy-intensive process of fracturing mineral-bearing rock ores in order to liberate valuable minerals.
Our mill (known as the ARBS Mill, short for Accurate Rock Breakage System) reduces energy used by as much as 80% and brings several important additional benefits over the mills commonly used by the mining industry today.
The ARBS technology also has applications outside of mineral processing (e.g. cement production).

What is the ARBS mill?
The ARBS is a new method for fracture of rock ores to the fine sizes required for mineral recovery and other industrial uses (e.g. cement). The mill uses a fracture mechanism that requires only a fraction of the energy of conventional mills. The preliminary results suggest that the process has multiple other benefits that significantly reduce the environmental footprint of grinding and milling. At the moment we are developing a method to achieve this low energy fracture at an industrial scale.

What is comminution and why are we so interested in it?
Comminution is the action of reducing a material, especially a mineral ore, to minute particles. It is an essential process for much of the mining industry where it is used to fracture rock ores into fine particles in order to liberate and then recover the valuable minerals (e.g. copper, gold, platinum, zinc, magnetite).
Why is saving energy in comminution so important?
The mining industry uses between 2 and 4% of the world’s electricity, either as part of the mineral recovery circuit or for the manufacture of cement and other products that require the ores to be ground to a fine particle size. The most commonly used equipment is a combination of crushers, high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) and tumbling mills (including SAG, Ball and Rod mills). While these technologies are well established and well proven, they suffer from well-known shortcomings, not the least of which is the very low energy efficiency.
What is Comminution Reimagined?
Comminution Reimagined is an international company consisting of team members and partners from all different continents. Our main operations are located in Sweden and our offices are located south of Gothenburg.
